Art Auction for Haiti

Artwork by local students and professional artists will be on display for bidding at the Big Picture for the month of February with opening reception on February 13th. The reception will feature speakers, refreshments and door prizes. All funds raised go to support AMURTEL, an organization with over two decades of relief work experience in Haiti. I will have one painting up for auction! Come bid on or buy something beautiful and help those in need! Artist Statement

I was born in Bridgeport, Connecticut but grew up in Vermont moving to the Mad River Valley in 1981. I have studied art since the age of six, winning two state-wide art competitions by the age of seven. While I have attended art institutions and studied to become an art teacher for a period in my life, I prefer much more intimate learning experiences taking part in workshops with artists who I admire~

Over the years my work has evolved greatly. Primarily working as a portrait watercolorist, I began to feel a lack of wanted color and texture in my paintings. Furthermore, I felt a desire to lean more towards an abstract way of creating much as I did when I was a child. Inspired by the book “The Art of Eric Carl”, I began to experiment by adding tissue paper to my watercolor paintings. Not yet satisfied with the outcome, I experimented with soft pastel in the last step of the painting process. This fusion of three mediums created the desired look and feel of what I was searching for and working to achieve. This journey has led me to trust in the process of creating from within and I now often do not use still life to work from but rather imagine a painting~

In 2003 I began to show my work professionally and sold my first painting on the first day of my first exhibit. In 2004 I created a line of note cards which can be found in various shops through-out the state of Vermont. In 2007 I became a partner of Artisans' Gallery in Waitsfield, VT. In 2008 I opened The Starving Artist, an art supply store located in the Mad River Valley. I describe my art in simple terms; fun, vibrant and always evolving~
